Belmond Hotel Caruso – Discover natural wonders at the Ferriere Valley

The Amalfi Coast isn’t just for the summer months, there’s still plenty to do by the sea in autumn. To Belmond Hotel Caruso, this season is the best one to play the green card and start discovering the surroundings, indulging in inspiring walks on the hunt for natural wonders, including a stroll into the Ferriere Valley natural reserve. Fed by the rushing Canneto River and shielded from the winds, the valley enjoys a subtropical microclimate that
protects and nurtures rare flora and fauna. The giant, prehistoric fern Woodwardia radicans, considered a living fossil, still exists here. Plants more usually found in Africa and South America thrive while newts and rare spectacled salamanders hide in the undergrowth. Cascading waterfalls and crystal-clear pools, ruined paper mills and the ironworks that gave their name to the valley complete the decadent scenery. Here Belmond suggests to
spend a relaxing morning walking ad admiring this landscape of intimate and heartbreaking beauty. Do not forget to indulge in a lemon scented cake before heading back to the Hotel: the perfect treat after an amazing walk. For more info & reservations email to concierge.car@belmond.com

It is visible for example in the very traditional Arancini (rice balls stuffed with meat and coated with a light, crispy batter), invented in the 10th century by Arabs and taking their name from the the word arancia (orange), which they resemble in colour and texture.
